Why is it important to cite the DCMR COBRE?

Each year, the DCMR submits a comprehensive Annual Progress Report to NIGMS. Information from this progress report is used by NIGMS to justify continued support of the IDeA program. Publications citing NIGMS support demonstrate that its resources are being used for research on human health and disease. A strong list of cited publications place Delaware in a better position to successfully compete for future funding opportunities from the IDeA program.

Citation in publications and presentations

Publicizing the outcomes of projects that are funded by the National Institutes of Health helps the community better understand the role of biomedical research and its impact on improving human health.

To that end, all grantee publications – including research publications, articles, abstracts and presentations that are funded by NIH and the National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS) – require acknowledgement. This includes grantees receiving direct support from DCMR COBRE as well as indirect support, such as through the use of DCMR COBRE resources such as the Delaware Biotechnology Institute Core Instrumentation Centers.

These materials must include one of the following two statements:

• This publication was made possible by the DCMR COBRE program, supported by a grant from the National Institute of General Medical Sciences and from the National Institutes of Health – NIH-NIGMS COBRE (P20 GM139760)
• This project was supported by the DCMR COBRE program, with a grant from the National Institute of General Medical Sciences and from the National Institutes of Health – NIH-NIGMS COBRE (P20 GM139760)

For abstracts, a brief citation could be:

• Supported by a grant from NIH-NIGMS COBRE (P20 GM139760)

• This content is solely the responsibility of the authors and does not necessarily represent the official views of NIH.

When should the DCMR COBRE be cited?

If the work that is published was supported in any way by DCMR COBRE, then this support should be acknowledged. Support from DCMR COBRE can come in many ways. Following are examples of support through DCMR COBRE that may have made publication of your work possible:

• Direct support of research by DCMR COBRE
• Use of Core Instrumentation Facilities supported by DCMR COBRE: Bioimaging Center at DBI, Bioinformatics Center at DBI, Microarray Core Center at DBI, Analytical Ultracentrifuge at DBI, Chemi-luminescence Imaging System in Wolf Hall, Protein/Peptide Sequencing facility in Brown Lab
• Use of bioinformatics resources supported by DCMR COBRE. Bioinformatics resources supported by INBRE include: Vector NTI, Vector Xpression, SeqWeb – GCG, Sequencher, Molecular Operating Environment (MOE), Starlight, Amira
• Participation in other DCMR COBRE-supported projects through its Outreach and Administrative Cores such as such as workshop attendance, travel support to conferences, or hosting a DCMR COBRE undergraduate research intern.

The rule of thumb to use in deciding whether to cite DCMR COBRE is if publication were not possible without access to one or more of these resources, or the rate at which the work was published was significantly enhanced because of access to these resources.
